My name is Gerard (Jay) Grasso. My students call me Mr. G.

Growing up, I was good with numbers so Math was not a terrible experience for me like it is for many others. I believe anyone can improve in Math if they get the 1 on 1 help they need.

I enjoyed teaching my three younger brothers Math when they were in earlier grades so I always had an interest in Math teaching. But I started as a Software Engineer for Defense companies like Raytheon and half-way through my career, I decided to try High School Math teaching.

I was inexperienced and I wasn't connecting with the High Schoolers so I left High School Math teaching after 6 years and worked for Pearson Education as a Math Editor on several High School Math books. I was so proud of myself to create good Math curriculum and to then actually have my name printed in the Math books (Geometry, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2)!

At Pearson Education, I learned alot about Math education and technology and wanted to use that as a Math Intervention Middle School teacher. This time I connected with the classroom! I really enjoyed helping kids who were struggling in Math by using good curriculum and On-Line tools!

During the pandemic, I taught Math remotely for Elevate K-12 in schools in Texas and Louisiana! I loved engaging the students in Math using technology and I did it well as I received recognition from Elevate K-12 for my excellence in student engagement!

Presently, my wife and I live in Hawaii and I am a Math Intervention teacher at the Damien Memorial Middle and High School on Oahu. I also started my Math tutoring business LearnMath :) and volunteer as a Math tutor at the Palama Settlement in Honolulu helping kids that need a boost.

My approach is to use IXL Diagnostics to help students see where they are at skill-wise. This helps them see what they need to practice. Students have to realize that there is no quick fix to improving in Math. If students are consistent and practice with me, I have seen them elevate 2 grade levels in one year!

Standardized Tests
If you're studying for a Math test like the SAT or ACT, or the ASVAB, PSAT, AMC 8, or AP Pre-Calc, let's create a plan to help you start practicing and preparing. I can follow-up with you to make sure you are on track!

Or if you want to get better in your Math class at school, schedule a free consultation!

Thanks,
Mr. G
