The most important thing to create in tutoring is a great connection. Of course, for remote tutoring that means a good network connection. But more importantly, a great rapport between the tutor and the student is really what counts!

Math tutors need to find the right balance between challenging their students to grow and not exasperating them. Parents can often do this and I as a parent have been guilty, but a great relationship between the student and the tutor is paramount.

I try to ask alot of questions and get to know my students so that I can help my student make progress in Math and have fun along the way. Tutors have to understand how their student is feeling that day and what motivates them.

Checking in with parents is also very important as students may not tell a tutor what they feel about their Math tutoring.

Ultimately though, a student has to make goals and realize the opportunity of having a tutor, and take advantage of it. In a sense, a student has to mature if they really want to overcome past Math weaknesses.
